Making a Wish Come True
Designer: Cristin Emmerson
Category: Around Superior
At the beginning of September, I met with a lady who was interested in renovating her Mom’s kitchen, but they were really pressed for time. When I heard that her Mom wasn’t going to be able to come to the showroom, I gathered multiple product samples for her to take home. The daughter was so excited to be able to involve her Mom in the design process, since she didn’t think it would be possible.
Over the next week or so, a few revisions were made to the kitchen layout and by mid September they were ready to proceed with the order. When I arrived at the house to do the measure, I realized not only why time was so valuable but also why her mother could not make it into the showroom. The daughter informed me that her mother had terminal cancer, and it had always been her wish to have a new kitchen. Although time was short, all the family wanted was for their Mom to see her new kitchen, and hopefully enjoy it for some time.
Once I got back to the office, I explained the situation to my managers, and they jumped into action to help this family out. Key members of the ordering and installation process were notified, and they were able to push the kitchen cabinets through manufacturing faster than normal. In the first week of October, the cabinets were delivered and installed. By the end of the week the countertop was installed... the kitchen was complete. The family was ecstatic and so appreciative of all that we had done to help their Mom's wish come true.
It was such a wonderful gift for the family to give their Mom something that she has always wanted, even with the situation that they were in. I am very grateful to have been able to meet this family and be a part their "wish".
